Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel appeared to be happy (relieved) after finally being selected by the Cleveland Browns. And why not? There's a great chance he'll lead them to a Super Bowl. Party.
I felt so sorry for the guy while watching the NFL Draft on ESPN. It was so awkward. It was like watching a girl at the prom who never gets asked to dance. The difference is, it's easier on the girl because she's not on national television having to continue to look confident.
I was so happy for him when it was finally over and he had a team that really wanted him. The bad news for him is that its Cleveland, the place where NFL players retire while still playing the game.
Cleveland Brown jokes abound. What do you call a Cleveland Browns player with a Superbowl ring? A thief.
Why is it impossible for the Cleveland Browns to ever really win? Because they still have to go back to Cleveland.
The Cleveland Browns are like a bunch of possums. They play dead at home and get killed on the road.
You get the idea. At least the kid was finally selected. And who knows? Maybe he'll be lucky enough to get traded soon.
I have a hard time watching the NFL Draft. The panel of very informed NFL commentators do their best to guess who the next team will pick. I think the real reason they are there is to fill time between selections. Its very very boring. I think I would rather watch 15 episodes of "The Talk", then listen to these poor guys attempt to accurately guess correctly and keep getting it wrong. My favorite part is the play on words, where Budweiser sponsors the draft.
Today, everyone will be second guessing most of the teams' selections. And who knows? Some of these players will go on to be NFL stars, while others will fade into obscurity.
I hope the really good players who did not get drafted yesterday can find a spot on an NFL team someplace. I can only imagine how disappointed they might feel thinking for sure they were going to be drafted, solidifying their value as an athlete, only to have their confidence shaken by being left out in the cold.
Well, at least Johnny finally found a home. He might even get to guest star on an episode of Hot in Cleveland.
See you tomorrow.
