True Friends

Friends are people you can count on. With a Sharpie.

Really good friends are very hard to find. I've been blessed with many of them. The old phrase, "A friend in need, is a friend indeed" is so true. We've all been through the school of hard knocks. We've experienced the thrill of victory, and the pain of defeat. The real question is, who was really there for you?

Many who read this blog know that you were there for me at one of the lowest points of my life. I was unable to provide for my family for the first time in my life, and it was taking a horrible toll. I was completely wrapped up in the assumption that a man's worth was tied directly to his paycheck. Caveman mentality.

Fortunately, my theory was blown apart by so many caring friends who were certainly there when I was in need. Some gave money and prayers, others gave prayers and couldn't afford to give money. Both were of equal importance and will never be forgotten.

I have a number of local friends that I can count on for just about anything. When we needed to move, they swarmed the house and moved us. Sometimes, people will help you move and just dump your belongings anywhere in the new dwelling. Not these people. They made sure everything was in it's proper place, and put together before leaving. Great friends, indeed.

I guess the point I'm making is that there are friends, and there are acquaintances. Both serve a place in our lives and are important, but isn't it great to have people you can count on, no matter what? Do you have at least one person you can count on? I hope so. If not, contact me. I'll be that person. I'll help you any way I can. I'll listen to your troubles, pray for you, officiate your wedding for free, pray with you; I'll do what I can with what I have.

One cannot place a value on true friendship, so please be careful with the ones you have. They can never be replaced. My hope, as you read this, is that you will pick up the phone and call one of your true friends that you haven't spoken to in a while. It will make it a great day for each of you.

See you tomorrow.
