Football is a dangerous game. The announcers are the worst. I was watching a pre-season game last week and a player got hurt really bad. Announcers: "Oh, you never want to see a guy get hurt like that. You just never want to see that. Let's watch it again in slow motion. Hey, maybe we can get a reverse angle".
After all of the waiting and prognosticators making their predictions, we're at a point in the pre-season where we'll see the starters play more, giving us either hope of a great year or another "almost made it to the playoffs again" view. It will be interesting, to say the least.
Baseball is a bust this year for the defending champions, the San Francisco Giants, but the Detroit Tigers are on top of their game and could very well return to the Series. I would be ecstatic if that were to happen. I love the Tigers. I always have. When I was a kid, I watched Norm Cash, Al Kaline, Mickey Lolich, Denny McClain and the spaceman, Mark Fidrich play. Then, nothing much to speak of until the 80's, when they really put together a great defense up the middle, great pitching and hitting and in 1984 won the Series.
The Giants, however, suddenly have no offense or pitching, the things that got them there last year. Same manager, same pitchers, for the most part, and the same hitters. They are dead last. The prognosticators were proclaiming the Giants as the next dynasty. Right. They'll be lucky to get to 500.
So,we turn our eyes to football, both college and professional. It will get us through til the first week of February. That's a good stretch of time.
How about those who don't like sports? I guess it's reality shows, good books and many other satisfying activities. At times, I almost envy them. But the kickoff changes all of that.
See you tomorrow.
