The Aftermath

Even if it's clothing that doesn't fit, you won't see Dads at a return counter today. It's against our policy to return gifts, no matter how hideous.

So, the morning after the last gift giving holiday until Christmas will no doubt bring up questions about how each man's day went. Not so much what did you get, but more like what did you do?

I know that when my wife asks me what I want for father's day, I always say that I want nothing, and I mean it. I want to talk to my children, relax and have a BBQ. At some point in the day, I'll watch a baseball game. That's ythe perfect day for me.

What will kill all of that, is family drama. I hate it. It completely distracts from the calmness of the day, thereby ruining the day. Sibling rifts can be handled on a different day. Not the one day where it is an integral part of the day.

It seems like every holiday gets ruined by my wife's family. Although I love all but one of them, they somehow manage to have some silly conflict which trumps the joy of the holiday. So and so won't come because another so and so will be there. Someone has been bad mouthing someone else on Facebook.

I'm to the point where I'm going to enjoy the holiday, even if it means doing something on my own. I'm no longer going to allow the drama impact my holiday. Someone didn't get invited until a couple of days ahead of time. Someone else claims they are not being supported by the family (whatever that means).

Every family has their share of ups and downs, including mine, but this kind of drama is almost daily in my wife's family and I'm done with it. Ugh.

See you tomorrow.
