NSA

I used to panic if I lost an important email. Now, if I lose one, I'll just contact NSA and have them forward their copy.

This is a volatile topic, to be sure. Some don't like it, while others are ok with it. Some people don't really care. It's the ones that don't care that really worry me. Fence sitting is the worst.

Apathetic people let things happen without protest, I think, for a number of reasons and are the most serious threat to our nation. Throughout the history of our nation, there have been debates. Some over small issues, others over huge issues. Debate is a good thing. It brings out several points of view and if we can keep an open mind, we'll see them all and choose the option that we think best serves our neighborhood, city, state and nation.

Many people just vote along party lines, no matter what the issue is or how it might impact them. The NSA issue is a perfect example, as well as gun control. Some feel ok about the NSA monitoring our call information, email correspondence, etc., while others are vehemently opposed to it.

Some say they have nothing to hide and if it will protect against more attacks on Americans, they're all for it. I think it's a valid point. Others don't want to be monitored because it gives the government too much power over the citizens of our nation. Still others really don't seem to care.

When I worked for the government, as a new analyst, I attended a meeting to disseminate information on a new program that would increase productivity exponentially, while not increasing costs. While observing, I heard a number of people say that it was just another ridiculous program and they would just fake it until it went away.

I spoke up and told the group that I thought the biggest threat to that branch of the DOD was the very group we were meeting with. They told me that since they had been there for decades and I was just beginning, my perspective was invalid. I tried to make my point, but to no avail, because the room was filled with apathethetic people.

Many of those people were forced to take early retirements a couple of years down the line. They complained, of course, but were unwilling to try something new that would have saved their jobs.

Some people believe that background checks for potential gun owners gives the government too much power over the citizens. Others believe it will save lives. No matter which side you fall on, at least there is a debate. Undocumented alien status, same sex marriage, abortion, it doesn't matter the issue, there needs to be debate.

Personally, I believe that cosmetologists are Russian spies and cannot be trusted.

See you tomorrow.
