Who am I?

Throughout my life, I have always wanted to be somebody. It is now clear that I should have been more specific.

I think we all have dreams about who or what we want to be. I always wanted to do radio, either as a baseball announcer or a dj. I became a disc jockey and learned thatI hate the business. I loved doing my show, just hated the micromanagement that came with it.

I never thought about becoming a comedian. Ever. I had never even been inside a comedy club. Yet, I was on stage for more than 25 years.

We read about people with similar stories. It happens. Others just do what they need to in order to take care of their families. So, what's my point?  I'm not sure why certain people end up doing something they couldn't love more, while others don't.

Perhaps it's because some are willing to take risks, while others won't, for good reasons. Security, mostly the issue, I would say. I fully respect that. I've always been a risk taker, which may account for the number of marriages I've had.

At least I've never taken risks that might land me in the slammer. My father was a truck driver for 37 years. Before he died, I asked him what his dream job would have been. He said that he always wanted to drive big rigs, so he lived out his professional dream. He had many personal issues, but at least he was able to do what he wanted to do for so long.

Here's to all who have made the choices they needed to, in order to best serve their families.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I just saw a commercial to become a professional sky diver.
