Pizza

The company, "Pizza Man" is being sued because of its name. The plaintiff says that the company's name does not reflect today's standards because nothing they serve tastes like pizza.

I love pizza. Any kind of pizza. I don't especially care for anchovies or pineapple, but I can still enjoy the pie. Pizza is one of those birthday party or move day givens. Unless you are lactose intolerant, everyone seems to love the gooey goodness.

Pizza was considered a meal for peasants for hundreds of years in Greece and Egypt, depending on which source you believe. It was first made in the United States by a restaurnateur in New York, in the early twentieth century.

Traditional New York pizza is known for its thin crust and delicious toppings. In addition, the brick ovens and the temperature in which the pie is baked are two key elements in making the perfect pizza.

And then there's the deep dish Chicago style pizza, my favorite. There are so many delicious ingredients layered and baked in a Chicago style pizza, I can only eat one slice. The first time I had it, I ate two, because it was so good. The problem was walking afterward. I resembled a lady in her third trimester of pregnancy trying to get around.

There are pizza wars in New York and in Chicago over who makes the best pizza, and the patrons are the ones who decide. Some will say one place is the only place to go, while others claim the same about their favorite place. In the end, one thing is clear. People love pizza.

I used to travel a great deal. Each time I was in England with my boss, who loves Pizza Hut, but certainly not Italian style. Each time we went to dinner at an English restaurant that served Italian food, I always ordered the weirdest pizza on the menu. Sometimes there was a salad on it, other times a variety of meats with a fried egg on top. He hated looking at it, which was my intention. Fun.

Now we have places that put the pie together and you take it home fresh and bake it yourself. Brilliant! It doesn't get more fresh than that. 425° for 12 minutes and voila! A hot, fresh pizza ready to eat.

Mr. Totino was the first to introduce frozen pizza. Now there are many brands to choose from, even the generic store brands, which are not very good. But, you know what they say about pizza. It's like having sex; even if it's bad, it's still good.

See you tomorrow.
