Ugly Turtles

I wish I were a turtle. Especially the larger ones. They live for a very long time, they never have the stress of house hunting and they are really ugly but everyone says they're cute.

Turtles are cool. The smaller turtles you see in aquariums are really cute. Kids love them, adults love them, heck, everyone loves them. And why not? They're dark green and swim around the aquarium.

We're fascinated by things that swim. Tropical fish, sharks, dolphins, porpoise, sea horses, sting rays, jellyfish, whales, seals, otters, etc. We pay good money to see these and other fish and animals swim around tanks. We even get excited about goldfish and sea monkeys.

We love ugly creatures too. Eels, and all of the other slimy creatures: snails, urchins, squid and octopus.

Starfish are cool. So are sand dollars, crabs, lobsters, oysters, class, all of the shellfish. If you think about it, lobsters are really ugly when you look at them closely. It's the same with crabs. The only way they look great is when they're on a plate.

Many people love raw fish. Sushi bars are expensive, but the good ones are crowded. I must say, I do enjoy certain sushi delights, although nothing slimy. I was out with a date in my single years, having sushi. She turned to say something to me and there was a tentacle hanging on her lip. Date over. It was not her fault, but that image is still emblazoned in my brain.

I love lox and bagels. Love it! My favorite food ever, followed closely by escargot. When people discover lox is raw salmon, they freak! Same with escargot. I know! How could anyone like a cooked snail? I learned to love them in France. So delicious, when prepared correctly.

And to come full circle, I also like turtle soup. Maybe I should rethink this whole turtle thing.

See you tomorrow.
