Suspicious Minds

Every time my wife asks me who I'm talking to on the phone, texting, emailing, etc., I always tell her it's Jake, from State Farm.

I love that commercial. Especially when the wife, after talking to Jake, says "She sounds hideous". Then the husband says,"Yeah, well he's a guy, so..." That's some funny stuff, right there.

In reality, jealousy is ugly. Sometimes it's warranted and sometimes it's not. It's the suspicion that will drive you nuts. I go with my gut feeling. I've learned to trust my instincts, even when the other person tells me that I'm just imagining things.

If you have reason to believe that your significant other is seeking or seeing someone else, as long as there is no history of abuse, I think you should confront the person face to face, when they least expect it. Their reaction will tell you a lot.

One of my favorite movies is "Moon Struck", starring Cher, Nicolas Cage, Olympia Dukakis and Danny Aiello. Cher's father was having an affair, and didn't think that Cher's mother, Olympian Dukakis, was aware.

One night, at dinner, Dukakis' character said to her husband, "I want you to stop seeing her". The dining room became silent. Finally, the father stands up, an angry look on his face, slams his hand on the table and says "OK"! Done. I know it was just a movie, but she blind sided him.
That's the way I think it should be done. She had done her homework, and knew for a fact that the affair was taking place, and it was a movie...  That being said, I still know people, including me, who have had the confrontation, and however painful, the truth seems to come out.

Affairs are ugly for everyone involved. If you're thinking about having an affair, perhaps some counseling would be a good idea. If that doesn't work, then a divorce is better than an affair.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get my binoculars. A strange car just pulled up in front of my neighbor's house.

See you tomorrow.
