Avoiding Service

Many of us want to serve God, but only as advisors.

I believe that God wants us to serve Him. In order to do that, we need to know Him. Some of you may not agree, and that's ok. It's never up to me to judge anyone. Ever. There is only one judge, and it sure isn't me.

Many times, in my prayer life, I have tried to advise God regarding what He should do. I fail to listen when I do that. I just tell God what to do, thank Him for it, and off I go to live out my day.

The next time I come to God in prayer, I have the need to remind Him that perhaps He wasn't listening very well yesterday. I have been guilty of that so many times. Very silly. God said that He wants my obedience to him. How can I do that, when I'm busy telling Him what to do? It just doesn't work that way.

I can recall so many times when I have been upset with God because He failed to do what I told Him to. Even writing this seems so ridiculous. Who am I to be telling the creator of the universe, including me, what to do?

Thankfully, He knows me and loves me enough to provide the Grace to put up with my silly notions until He decides enough is enough and decides to really get my attention and let me know who's boss. If only I can learn that permanently.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I just saw a beautiful Mercedes I need to pitch my need for to God.

See you tomorrow.
