Super bowl Sunday is thought to be the worst day of the year for domestic violence, and I have the black eye to prove it.
It's actually a myth that began years ago. I believe that most incidents are alcohol related, and since there are many days when alcohol is consumed in large quantities, I do believe it to be a myth.
I think the bigger culprit is wild betting, and not just De hombre a hombre anymore. The ladies are more involved in the game itself than ever before, and couples love to be on opposite sides.
Right now, it's 4 am, and I'm writing this piece, wearing one of my Dolphin jerseys. Yeah, I'm well aware that they didn't even get close this year, but on this Sunday, it doesn't matter.
My wife will wear her Bronco jersey, at some point prior to kick off. She'll be rooting for Michael Oher, even though he's had a dismal season, to say the least. In fact, he was moved to the other side of the line because he couldn't protect Flaco's blind side, giving up. 11 1/2 sacks.
Still, you can't think of Michael without thinking of Sandra Bullock. Then I think of Jesse James. Idiot. Then I think. Of the old West, and, well, it takes me a while to get back to the future.
I'm rooting for the 49ers because they're my Mother's favorite team. And, at 81, I think it would be cool. So many are pulling for OJ Lewis, hoping he'll go out on top. I'm of the opinion that he should be in jail. I believe he and his friend killed those two men years ago, and got away with it. Just my opinion.
In any event, it will hopefully be a good game, with great commercials. It will be my wife and I, and the two dogs. I don't know who they are rooting for. They never talk about it.
I asked my daughter last night and she reminded me that sports does not exist in her world.
Whomever is the victor, let's remember not to get too angry with each other. Remember, in the department store or life, sports is the toy department.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get a couple of those giant sumo wrestling suits so we can fight without harm.
See you tomorrow.
