Take a note!

Today, my boss told me to take a note, So I grabbed his wallet, and took twenty dollars. Bad move.

Bosses are strange. I've found they either display too much power, too little power, or are very effective by portraying just enough power to delegate properly.

Micromanagement is the worst. The boss doesn't trust anyone to be able to run their business as their own, although that's what he/says all of the time.

I've had good and bad, as I'm sure we all have. My first encounter with a bad boss was in high school. The guy would drive us around and drop us off in different areas to sell Fuller Brush products door to door. While doing so, he would drink cheap wine that he hid in the car.

I had one that was so mean, he made American Idol Judges look like pussy cats. He would feign affection for his staff, all the while sexually harassing the females and firing males for no good reason.

This guy was so bad, he tried to manipulate one employee, who's son was dying of cancer, to go on television and ask for money for the family. He refused to do so because his status in the community would help raise money for his family, while others in the same situation would be short changed.

The boss told me twice to get him to change his mind because it would be great publicity for the company. Disgusting.

Lastly, I had a boss who would thwart any attempt I made at improving
the program I was working on, so I would fail. She was protecting someone in the department, who might look bad if I were to succeed. She would assign me to another project, only to squash every idea I had, even if her superiors loved them. No one liked working for her. Dispicable.

My best boss is still a friend named Dave Soule. He delegated and let me get the desired results using my own methodology and personality. Great boss. I was promoted quickly from his department because he let me shine.

If you're a boss, please treat your employees well, not just because HR will bust you if you don't, but because it's the right thing to do.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to run and get a bagel for my boss.

See you tomorrow.
