Poverty

"I believe that poverty is to blame for people being poor. If we eliminate poverty, our nation will no longer suffer from financial woes."  ~Idiot Politician

If you've ever wondered where your next meal will come from, been homeless, or just a hair away from it, had to beg utility companies to keep your accounts active, you know what I'm talking about.

There are far too many homeless and hungry people in our nation. We are quick to categorize these folks as lazy, or druggies or both. We can't seem to understand their plight.

I have volunteered at shelters, and yes, there were some druggies there, but many were simply not able to make their mortgage or rent payments because they were unable to find a job.

I was nearly in the same situation. If it weren't for some wonderful friends and the help of church members, we might have been in the same circumstance. Some of the homeless people I encountered had two or three degrees, but were unable to find work and unemployment had either run out, or just wasn't enough to pay the bills.

There are those who say, "Well, if I was out of work, I would work at a fast food place, flipping burgers. Right. As if that will pay the bills. When I couldn't find a job, I went to work as a door to door sales person for commission only. Although I did well, the pay wasn't even close to requirements. Flipping burgers at night would not have made a big enough difference for me.

I have a debilitating condition that would not allow me to work anyway, so that would not apply to me, but my point is that those in a higher income bracket will have more trouble than those in a smaller bracket. Those in the smaller wage bracket could get by having a second job that pays little.

Many have lost their homes, cars, etc.; and filed for bankruptcy. Those folks would find it easier to start over than others. It's a sad situation, no matter the viewpoint.

I have been in a place where I couldn't afford food, so I didn't eat anything for nearly a week. My heart goes out to those in that position.

I'll see you tomorrow.

One of the funniest books you'll ever read! "The Twisted Musings of a Comedian"
