Jealousy and Envy

I don't know why green was chosen as the official color for envy, but I'll bet it's pretty ticked off at all of the other colors.

Colors, and what they mean are fascinating to me. Why was green chosen for envy? Red for hot? Yellow for mellow? Who made these decisions?

Kermit the frog even sang "It's not easy, being green". From a frog's perspective, I can see that. You have to blend as a matter of survival. Green can be associated with all sorts of wonderful things. Nature instantly comes to mind. So many beautiful green trees, plants and leaves. And money, sweet money.

But besides jealously and envy, there are other negatives that green brings to the table. Moss, a fisherman's enemy, vegetables and mold. If you don't clean out the refrigerator every now and again, everything turns green. If something in the fridge reaches out and closes the door for you, it's probably time to do some cleaning.

Green is also the symbol of winning "The Masters Tournament", in golf. However hideous, the winner gets the coveted jacket. How about the super hero, The Green Hornet?

Emeralds are green. A flawless emerald can be very beautiful and valuable. How about a beautiful lawn? The envy of the neighborhood. There's that word again. How about the golf course? There's nothing quite like a beautiful, plush green golf course. They're gorgeous, whether you're a golfer or not.

When you get to the green with fewer strokes than anticipated, as a golfer, you love it. Golf courses even have greens keepers. It's their job to keep the course in pristine green condition.

There's nothing more beautiful to  baseball enthusiasts than a very nice green field. It's awesome. IIt

Green is much more than envy or jealousy. It's beautiful, as well. Unless it's on a chia pet. That's just ridiculous.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to replace a ring that is turning my wife's finger green.
